Radecker in reach of history breaking premiership

Apprentice Mandy Radecker rode out the last Saturday metropolitan meeting for the 2007-2008 season to perfection on July 26.
All eyes were on the 22-year-old who is set to make Queensland racing history by becoming the first female to take out the leading metropolitan apprentice title for a season.
And it couldn’t have panned out any better with the apprentice picking up a winning double on her master’s horses Rebounded and Victory Code.
Indentured to trainer Pat Duff, Radecker has been engaged to ride Victory Code (G6 Faltaat-Crest of Casitas) in all of his three Brisbane starts after the horse shifted from New Zealand during the winter carnival.
The gelding’s form peaked perfectly for Radecker who has been in a battle with apprentice Michael Palmer for the title.
Victory Code stepped up to the winner’s circle after running second at his last start to win the Montrose Access Ownit Homes Handicap 1350m by half a length over Black Ink (Joshua Jones) with Foolish (Jim Byrne) making up ground from the back of the field to run third, back a further neck.
“Going on the horse’s work I was quite confident going into the race but I also knew there were some very handy horses in the race that I would have to compete with,” Radecker said.
“I knew Sneaky Long (Michael Palmer) would go to the lead because that is where that horse wants to race. I wasn’t worried about having to catch that horse and knew I would rein him in pretty quick. I also knew there would be a few nicer chances hot on my heels.”
Radecker’s first win for the day came aboard Rebounded in the Greg Grant Saddlery Plate 1615m when the pair led the entire way to win by two lengths.
Ready When You Are (Jim Byrne) finished in second a long head in front of Punch Up (Ryan Wiggins). Race-favourite Frosty (Kelvin Wharton) finished in eighth place with the jockey later citing to Stewards that the horse was not suited by the pattern of the race and particularly the slowing of the pace.
Rebounded’s (G4 Telesto-She is a Lady) win was a nice turn around after finishing only ninth in his last run after winning over 1400m in his previous start.
“In his last start he got caught in a really awkward spot and was wide but it didn’t surprise me that he would run as well as he did (on Saturday),” Radecker said.
