The Kelly Schweida-trained Seesawing found herself back in the winner’s circle after triumphing in the Watpac Constructions Qld QTIS 3YO Handicap 1615m at City Pacific Doomben on Saturday, October 27.
Seesawing (F3 Easy Rocking-Playground) first won in her maiden run in March last year then had an unsuccessful start in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
She then had a break and returned in August and has since picked up prizemoney in all her starts as a three-year-old bar one, all of which have been QTIS races.
Carrying 53kg with Jim Byrne aboard, Seesawing jumped from gate five and was slow to begin.
They settled towards the back of the field of seven before moving out around the home turn and pulling away to win by three quarters of a length in front of $1.60 race favourite and 58.5kg topweight Athenas Gift (Shane Scriven).
Adnocon (Ken Pope) followed in third one and a quarter lengths behind.
“It was ideal,” said Byrne.
“I originally thought Adnocon and Athenas Gift would go forward and set a pretty good tempo.
“They did try to slow them down a little bit but a couple of horses were over-racing in the run which made a true staying race, well you know middle distance race, so this horse here really raced well.
“(She) Accelerated nice to the line…2000m should be ideal.”
Schweida was also happy with the race worth $53,000 to the QTIS winner. “I thought she raced really well,” he said.
“All her runs have been good this time in. I don’t think she liked the wet track the other day when she raced fourth.
“But she came in really good in the weights on Saturday. She got five kilos away from the two main chances.
“I thought there was going to be speed in the race. She likes to get back when there is speed on. I think the further she goes, the better she’ll get.
“She’ll run in a fortnight then go for a little break.”
The slow start didn’t have Schweida worried at all. “She’s always like that. Her half-sister’s the same and I think her half-brother’s the same,” he said.
“Her first couple of runs were 1200m and that so the further she goes, the better she is. We were really pretty confident she’d run well Saturday.”
Seesawing is owned by the chairman of the newly formed Brisbane Racing Club, Kevin Dixon and has earned $127,000 from her eight starts, including $48,000 in QTIS bonuses.
