Liam’s Luck had excuses when right behind the placegetters here last month. He started at $21 back at Cluden Park last Monday week and scored by a half-length. The winner is by Lyndhurst sire Hayil from a winning half-sister to prolific Brisbane winning sprinter Mighty Stronghold (Mighty Avalanche). His dam was sold to Indonesia in July 2006. His fourth dam is champion filly Eye Liner (Smokey Eyes), a G1 winner of the AJC Champagne St & QTC Lightning Hcp.

Top Echelon colt Toperna scored a convincing victory at Rockhampton – its was his second win in three starts after breaking his maiden at Sunshine Coast in June. Top Echelon stands at Craiglea Stud and he got the winner from a mare who died in May. Her previous winners were Tiartoo (Waterford Road) and It's In Her Eyes (Fine Action). She has a new-season 2yo filly by Moon Rocket.

Ballyvadddy had not been sighted in two runs at Gold Coast earlier this year. He blundered and nearly fell when resuming at Ipswich last month but improved enough to score a $26 upset second-up. By leading sire Lion Hunter, Ballyvaddy is a younger half-brother to STC 3YO Golden Rose winner Doonan (General Nediym). Their dam was a winning half-sister to NZ stayer Castletown (One Pound Sterling), a G1 winner of the NZ Derby, Auckland Cup, Wellington Cup, (3 times) and VATC Caulfield Stakes. Carnlough foaled a colt by Bel Esprit in October 2006 but she died a week later.

Meet George and Brilliantes (Falvelon) overhauled the favourite Spanish Fling in a close finish to the QTIS event. Meet George prevailed by a head for the Morton family. He is by Willowbend Sire Rock Of Cashel and is a younger half-brother to recent winner His Boy Elroy (Legal Opinion). Their dam has a yearling sister to Meet George and she was served by Set Alight last year.

Chinzee won a 900m trial and that was good enough to ensure she started a $2.80 favourite on debut. The Sequalo filly was a class them in this scamper – there was over five lengths to the third one home. The winner is a half-sister to Canadian Poppy (Canadian Silver) who won her maiden as a 5yo mare two races later on the Gold Coast card. They’re closely related to Listed Scone Cup winner Spy Zaim (Za-Im) and GCTC Goldmarket Hcp winner Shepishir (Shepherd's Field).

Rattle 'n' Run raced in a forward spot under Wade Clasohm and then put a space on his rivals in the straight. He had been placed in four from seven starts prior to this four length victory. The winner started a pronounced favourite. He is by Racetree sire Monashee Mountain and is a brother to Mystic Mountain who won 3 races in 2007-08. Their dam was covered by Carnegie last October.

Celestafy was runner-up to Sirena Ligera at Doomben in June and she was beaten less than three lengths behind Dusty Moon back at her home track a week before breaking through on the all-weather surface. Celestafy is by Canadian Silver and her dam Celestial Star, who is a daughter of BATC Doomben Dollars winner Lady Minto (Claudius), has a 2yo and a yearling colt by the deceased Lyndhurst sire. The dam was covered by Craiglea sire Longhorn late last year.
